Craps Field Bet: Odds, House Edge & When It Makes Sense

The field is the one-roll bet in the middle of the craps layout. It looks great: seven numbers win. The math says otherwise.

How it works

The field wins on 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12 and loses on 5, 6, 7, 8. Most tables pay double on 2, and double or triple on 12.

House edge

Winning combinations: 16 of 36. Losing: 20 of 36. With 2:1 on both 2 and 12 the edge is 5.56%. With 3:1 on 12 it drops to 2.78%. Compare the pass line at 1.41%, and free odds behind it at 0%.

The takeaway

The field is a fun, fast bet, but it costs 2–4× more per dollar than pass line + odds. Try both side by side on our free craps table (you can toggle 2:1 or 3:1 on 12 in settings) and watch the difference over 200 rolls.
